Why Did Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Reverse Her Ban on $200 Million Dollars of U.S. Palestinian Funding for Security Purposes?

Yesterday, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Chairperson of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, surprisingly acceded to the Obama administration’s most recent appeal for her to agree to lift the ban on providing the Palestinians and in particular, Abbas, PA/Fatah with $200,000,000.00 in funding for security purposes.

It was Ros-Lehtinen who had just months ago, in the wake of Abbas’ unity deal, struck with Hamas and the Palestinian bid to seek statehood recognition in the United Nations , led Congress to block the Obama administration’s efforts to continue aid to the Palestinians.

The Obama administration has always objected to that funding ban, holding fast to the view that funding the Palestinians is critical to Middle East stability, serves both Palestinian and Israeli security interests and thus, it most importantly serves U.S. national security interests....
